Specifications

Design

The Vivo Y04 boasts a sleek and stylish design that belies its budget price point. The back features a 3D micro-sculpting process with a nanometer-scale coating, creating a visually appealing and surprisingly grippy texture. Available in Space Black and Gem Green, the Y04 offers a modern look that won’t feel out of place in your hand.

Durability

While the Y04 doesn’t boast any military-grade certifications, it does come with a splash-resistant build (IP54) for peace of mind against minor spills. The phone is constructed with a plastic frame and back, which is standard for its category. Overall, the Y04 feels well-built for everyday use, but users who are prone to drops might want to consider a case.

Display

The Vivo Y04 shines in the display department. The 6.56-inch IPS LCD screen offers a smooth 90Hz refresh rate, making scrolling and animations feel noticeably faster compared to traditional 60Hz displays. The 720 x 1612 pixel resolution delivers clear visuals for everyday tasks, and the phone even includes a High Brightness Mode for better readability in bright sunlight.

Connectivity

The Vivo Y04 offers the standard connectivity options you’d expect in a budget phone. It supports 4G LTE networks, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 5.0, and GPS. Unfortunately, there’s no NFC for contactless payments, which some users might miss. The phone comes with a dedicated microSD card slot for expandable storage, allowing you to supplement the base storage options.

Processor and RAM

The Y04 relies on the MediaTek Helio G85 processor paired with 4GB of RAM. This combination is perfectly suitable for light to moderate tasks like browsing the web, social media, and watching videos. However, don’t expect it to handle demanding games or heavy multitasking without occasional stutters.

Storage

The Vivo Y04 comes in two storage options: 64GB and 128GB. While 64GB might be enough for basic users, those who like to store a lot of photos, videos, or music will likely appreciate the extra space offered by the 128GB variant. The presence of a microSD card slot allows for further storage expansion, making the Y04 a flexible option.

Battery

The Vivo Y04 packs a massive 5000mAh battery, which is a major highlight for this price range. This large capacity translates to excellent battery life, easily lasting a full day on a single charge with moderate usage. The phone supports 15W fast charging, which helps you get back up and running quickly when needed.

Operating System

The Vivo Y04 comes out of the box with Android 14, the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system. This ensures you have access to all the latest features and security updates. On top of Android, Vivo includes its Funtouch 14 user interface, which offers some customization options but might feel bloated to some users.

Security

The Vivo Y04 offers basic security features like fingerprint unlocking and facial recognition. While these are convenient for everyday use, they might not be the most secure options compared to more advanced methods.

Verdict

The Vivo Y04 is a compelling option for budget-minded users who prioritize a large display, smooth performance, and long battery life. The phone might not be the best choice for power users or gamers, but for everyday tasks and casual entertainment, it delivers impressive value for the price.
