Specifications
The G7X Mark II inherits a 4.2x optical zoom equivalent to 24-100mm from its predecessor. This includes an aperture of F/1.8-2.8 and a close-focusing distance of 5cm at 24mm and 40cm at 100mm. It’s a great, solid specification that offers general-purpose range with decent macro capabilities, all with a built-in neutral density filter.
The 31-point auto-focus on this model is fantastic in its own right, and you can reposition the auto-focus anywhere on the 1.04M-dot, 3-inch tilting touchscreen display. Alternatively, you can choose to use the face/tracking auto-focus option, which triggers the camera to focus on facial features instead of an object.
Users also have the option of switching between a single shot auto-focus, or using the “Servo” option for continuous auto-focus. Both of these options allow the auto-focus to choose a target quickly, taking no longer than a second for even the continuous option.
If you want extra precision or the auto-focus isn’t focusing on what you want it to for your shot, you can switch to a manual focus. You can tell the G7X II what to focus on using the buttons, touch-screen controls, or the lens ring at the front of the camera.
